Customer Case – Maritech Eye™

Maritech Eye™ has been in operation at Lerøy Aurora since November 2023, as an integral part of their salmon filleting line.

Maritech Eye™ is the leading vision system for automated quality assessment in the seafood industry, providing objective documentation of flaws in salmon and whitefish. The wide range of abilities spans from detecting blood spots, melanin, pigmentation, gaping and fat content as key issues in salmon fillet, to automated sorting and classification of species, blood content, wounds, gaping, nematodes and black lining in whitefish.

Two key reasons for choosing Maritech Eye

Tore Pedersen, Factory Manager at Lerøy Aurora, says that two key reasons drove their choice of Maritech Eye™.

– We want to ensure full control of all fillets that goes through our processing line, with automated sorting and optimal allocation for further value-added processing. Now we ensure objective quality documentation for each fillet and product delivered from Lerøy Aurora. Furthermore, we have identified a great potential in applying these insights in our seaside operations, connecting quality data to operational data from farming, feed and environmental indicators from our different localities.

Pedersen continues:

— For us, automated quality assessment is a natural next step, as we are establishing a comprehensive data-driven approach for Lerøy Aurora’s operations. We are confident that Maritech Eye™ will provide insights that can be utilized in creating a more efficient, profitable and sustainable business here in Skjervøy and for Lerøy as a group.

Proved value to the salmon processing industry

Per Alfred Holte, CCO, Maritech:

— Lerøy Aurora is an important flagship customer for us. Their operational experience, focus on quality and continuous improvement have been crucial in adapting and proving the operational value of Maritech Eye™ to the salmon processing industry.
