Tyrholm & Farstad Choose Maritech

Customer Case – Maritech TMS, Analytics, Timpex CMS

The traditional family-owned company Tyrholm & Farstad on Sunnmøre has for over 100 years delivered transport and logistics services to customers worldwide. The company is now taking a big step into the future by moving its logistics systems to the cloud in cooperation with Maritech.

With 111 years of experience, Tyrholm & Farstad offers a broad range of services including road, sea, and air freight, as well as its own terminal, warehouse and customs control. The company has always had the ability to renew itself, and in recent years digitalization has been high on the agenda.

Identifying the need for change

“We saw a big need to upgrade to a more modern transport system, and we want to modernize digitally and have as much as possible in the cloud,” says Tor Knutsen, CEO of Tyrholm & Farstad.

“Maritech Cloud checks off many of the boxes we had when choosing a new system. For us, it is important that our new system contributes to optimizing operations, increasing efficiency, and strengthening control. We see ever greater demands from both our customers and suppliers with respect to, among other things, electronic interaction, traceability and documentation, and the data handling in the system simplifies this greatly for us. Something which in turn contributes to fewer errors, better control and improved management and reporting.”

Complexity and Requirements for a Flexible ERP

“Given the complexity of our services – covering road, sea and air freight as well as terminal operations and warehousing – having a solid and flexible ERP system is essential. Early in the project, it became clear early that Maritech was the best fit for us. Having a Norwegian supplier was important to us — both during implementation and in terms of future support and development. Maritech combines that proximity with a best-in-class, cloud-based system offering modern interfaces and the flexibility required to manage complex operations,” says Knutsen.

The first phase of the project includes Maritech Cloud TMS, Analytics, the air freight module, and a customs solution (CMS). With growing expectations from ownership around digital modernization, Tyrholm & Farstad’s long-term goal is to consolidate all their systems in the cloud.

“It is important to us that the system we have chosen is scalable, allows us to move more parts of our business into the cloud. In the future we plantake advantage of Maritech WMS as well, integrating our cold and freezer storage for fish into the system and automating key accounting and invoicing processes,” Knutsen explains.

Strong Project Team and Good Support

The project and the process around implementation have progressed smoothly and according to plan. Knutsen has led the project from Tyrholm & Farstad’s side, together with a dedicated team of 3-4 super-users.

“Working with the team from Maritech has been very positive. From the first meeting, they were solution-oriented, well-organized, and genuinely focused on understanding our needs. It quickly became clear that Tyrholm & Farstad and Maritech were a great match — both in terms of the product itself and the strong rapport between everyone involved throughout the project. For us, it is crucial to have a supplier that is committed to our success, listens to our challenges, and provides active support at every stage.”

“It is rare to experience such thorough follow-up in a project, which has been especially important in this case given the complexity involved.”

Challenges That Led to New Solutions

Project manager Hanna Verås at Maritech describes the project as both rewarding and challenging.

“Tyrholm & Farstad is perhaps the most complex logistics customer we have worked with at Maritech. The project has presented challenges throughout, sometimes requiring us to rethink solutions to find the best approach. At the same time, it has been marked by strong teamwork and dedication from everyone involved. It is clear that Tyrholm & Farstad’s employees are highly motivated to transition to a new transport system, and there has been intensive training in recent weeks. That commitment has made the project especially rewarding for us at Maritech.”

Seamless Transition to the New System

With go-live approaching, the focus is on ensuring a smooth transition from the old system to the new one.

“To ensure a successful go-live, we have focused on clear internal communication. Our super users have spent significant time on internal testing and training, and we are pleased that a Maritech team will be present during go-live. This gives us greater confidence in the system transition and allows us to resolve any issues more quickly. We have also set up a go-live chat with Maritech, providing rapid answers to questions and efficient problem-solving,” Knutsen concludes.
