AnT Seafood

Customer case – Maritech Purchase & Sales

AnT Seafood B.V. has completed its move to Maritech Purchase & Sales, becoming the first company in the region to implement the cloud-based ERP solution. The project represents a major step for AnT Seafood B.V as it invests in efficiency, scalability, and digital transformation

Based in Urk, the Netherlands, AnT has been looking for a modern ERP solution that could streamline everyday processes, strengthen operational control, and provide reliable support for the company’s long-term ambitions. The seafood industry is highly competitive, and efficiency and transparency across the value chain are increasingly important. By moving to Maritech Cloud, AnT gains a flexible platform designed specifically for seafood businesses, enabling improved workflows, better data insight, and greater scalability for the future. Reflecting on the journey, the company highlights the impact already being seen:

“We are now in the final phase of the implementation and are convinced this ERP solution will mark a significant step forward in our daily operations. If we had to summarize Maritech in two words, it would be: professional and supportive”

Klaas Korf, AnT Seafood.

The roll-out has progressed according to plan, with a close and constructive collaboration between the teams. Klas Vangen, GM Europe & Asia in Maritech, underlined the significance of the partnership:

“We are extremely happy to have AnT live on Maritech Cloud. AnT is our first customer in Urk, and we could not have got any better company as the first one. They are forward leaning, with great people who are proactive in making change happen. We look forward to a strong journey together.”

Urk is widely recognized as one of Europe’s most important seafood hubs, with a strong tradition of quality, deep industry knowledge, and close ties to Norwegian suppliers. By choosing Maritech Cloud, AnT is taking an active role in shaping the digital transformation of the seafood industry, while strengthening its position in an increasingly competitive market. The collaboration highlights both the scalability of Maritech Cloud and the willingness of seafood businesses to invest in digital solutions that can support long-term growth.

Accelerator chooses Maritech

“We have great confidence in our new partnership and what we are currently doing together.”

Martine Møller, Logistics and Commercial Development Manager, Accelerator

Maritech TMS + Analytics, Timpex CMS, Confirm and Connect

“Everyone in our team is satisfied with the Maritech process, and the new systems will give us a significant boost,” Møller says.

The freight and logistics company Accelerator provides services in road, air, and sea transport worldwide. After a successful pre-project earlier this year, we are pleased to announce that they have now chosen Maritech as a partner and total supplier of business systems. The agreement includes the new transport management system Maritech TMS, Maritech Analytics, the customs solution Timpex CMS, the driver app Timpex Confirm, the booking system Timpex Connect, and integration with Visma.Net, Nordea Finance, WMS Ongoing, and more.

Doing it for the customers

“We are doing this primarily for our customers,” says Møller. “With a better system and integrations, we can offer our customers services that have not been possible with our current systems. When the new solutions are in place, we will increase customer satisfaction and provide a better customer journey for our customers’ customers. We want to strengthen our connection with them by providing key information for a smooth logistics flow. We also look forward to offering our agents, as well as having opportunities with suppliers, to achieve much better communication flow.”

Successful pre-project

“In the pre-project we did with Maritech, we conducted a thorough mapping of all processes. How we do things today and, most importantly, what is essential going forward. A process we work with today may not be a process we should continue with; we want to automate as much as possible of what is done manually today.

This way, we can simplify, save time, and eliminate sources of error. Manual routines also create errors in our analyses and make it cumbersome for us to extract reports and gain the insight we need without manual manipulation and combining various statistics. Reading the contribution margin for a single customer is obtained today by gathering information from several different systems and manually stitching it together. That’s rarely a good way to do it.”

"We have great confidence in our partnership with Maritech," says Martine Møller, Logistics and Commercial Development Manager, Accelerator

Value the Norwegian team

“Everyone in our team is satisfied with the Maritech project,” she continues. “It not only provided information useful in this specific project, but we also gained insight and many ‘aha’ moments along the way. It was valuable, regardless of everything. Fundamentally, the pre-project with Maritech’s work process and project format is a major reason why we chose Maritech. In addition, we knew some of the people at Maritech from before, from the Timpex days, and we find that they share many of the same values as us at Accelerator.”

“We consider it a clear advantage that the team is based in Norway and develops everything here. I would also highlight how Maritech works with new regulations from authorities, Customs, and the like. It is essential to be well-informed and engaged, and we find that Maritech is ahead of the game. We appreciate good dialogue and discussions that involve both challenges and future choices.”

Skilled people + good systems

“The combination of experienced, knowledgeable, skilled people and good systems is something we have great confidence in. I think Maritech has assembled a very good team for us, and much of the effort laid out at the beginning — I love the way they work — has allowed both us and Maritech to bring the right people into the project. From both sides, there has been a focus on ensuring that the result is as good as possible, rather than reaching the finish line as quickly as possible.”

Møller says the sobriety in planning the project is also a positive experience she would like to highlight. “Both the scope and the timeframe are easy to understand and relate to. I like having realistic deadlines, and together we have contributed to quality in both planning and now during implementation. When we work this way, it creates enormous confidence. The project is led within the framework, and we have a clear understanding of how we reach the goals we set together along the way. We enjoy being a demanding customer and want to develop on a broad level to enable our own customers to do the same.”

A natural choice

“I have also worked on creating various EDI integrations with carriers, connecting to the TMS we have today, and see how long things take. When I saw how a carrier we use a lot was setting up EDI exchange and only took five minutes to get everything ready from their side, I was truly impressed. They use the old Timpex TMS, but it’s the same people. It was the kind of response that I highly appreciate.”

“When you talk to suppliers, you quickly hear where their interest lies. Maritech gave us a sense of security; we really feel that they want us to succeed. All our leaders gave the same feedback when choosing a supplier.”

Møller explains that there is a significant commitment internally. “Not many hours go by without someone asking how it’s going. Everyone is curious, engaged, and, most importantly, willing to change. It is incredibly positive when every employee around you cheers for the project. It is not self-evident. Also, there we match well with Maritech; we share the desire to move forward, do new things, and develop further. We are very satisfied so far and look forward to getting this in place,” she concludes.

“An inspiring and forward-thinking customer.”

Senior consultant Hanna Verås leads the Accelerator project from Maritech’s side and says they are a highly skilled group that is rewarding to work with.

“I perceive Accelerator as a forward-thinking customer with great breadth in its operational activities. This allows them to challenge and push Maritech and our solutions in a good direction. They are truly passionate about good logistics and have many ideas and suggestions for improvements and functionality.

With the decision to implement Maritech TMS, we feel that Accelerator wants to take a step into the future. We at Maritech are proud that Accelerator has chosen us as a supplier and look forward to the collaboration ahead.”

Nova Sea

Customer Case – Purchase & Sales

“We continue our digital transformation journey by embracing cloud technology to streamline our processes,” Birkeland says.

Based in Lovund, Nova Sea AS is one of the largest producers of farmed salmon in Northern Norway. They have aquaculture facilities along the entire Helgeland coast and exports salmon to customers worldwide.

– For us, Maritech was a well-considered and natural choice. Geir Johan Birkeland, Former Head of IT at Nova Sea.

Innovation & Quality

“We have already worked closely with Maritech in the pre-project we conducted last year, and we find them to be a solid partner. Innovation and quality are essential common denominators; we challenge each other and make each other even better.

The new cloud software will enhance efficiency across various departments within our company, from coordination to sales, invoicing, and accounting. This will provide us with better control and create synergies beyond the functions directly involved in the project.”

A highly innovative customer

“Nova Sea is a highly innovative and technology-driven company, and we are proud that they have chosen us,” said Klas Vangen, VP Sales at Maritech.

“They produce premium products, have a strong focus on sustainability and technology, and their team is exceptionally skilled. We have learned a lot from them through our work together in recent months. Their expertise and dedication are crucial to Nova Sea’s success and have also added significant value to our collaboration. We look forward to achieving new milestones together and helping them continue increasing their growth.”

About Nova Sea

A Norwegian success story: Packed in plastic bags, the first farmed salmon arrived aboard a sea plane that landed in Lovund in 1972.

The original Nova Sea AS was established as a fish processing company at Naustholmen in Lovund in 1985. Since then, its development has been nothing short of remarkable.

Their vision is “The perfect balance”. Their values are: Local, Responsible, Competent and Proud.

Nova Sea chose Maritech Cloud

The First Eye at Sea

Útgerðarfélag Reykjavíkur is the first company that have started using Maritech Eye™ onboard fishing vessels.

In December, Icelandic Útgerðarfélag Reykjavíkur installed the first of their two Maritech Eye units.

Their purpose is to automate the recognition and documentation of species in combination with size and other parameters related to various characteristics of whitefish catch.

The information will also be sent to the fisheries authorities in Iceland, who will use the data for research and estimation of stock size to optimize Icelandic quotas. Fiskistofa, The Icelandic Directorate of Fisheries, and Hafrannsóknarstofnun Íslands, the Icelandic Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, express that this project is very exciting to follow up on and that they will collaborate closely with Útgerðarfélag Reykjavíkur.

Automated catch registration

“We chose Maritech Eye™ because we see the possibility to solve the task of registering all our catch and believe it will greatly help optimizing our operations and give important research data to fishing authorities,” says Runólfur V Guðmundsson, CEO Útgerðarfélag Reykjavíkur.

“Útgerðarfélag Reykjavíkur is a leading Icelandic fishing company. They always try to use the latest technology on their vessels and work closely with all stakeholders in the industry. True pioneers,” says Konráð Hatlemark Olavsson, General Manager Maritech Iceland.

“As the industry is changing and the boats are getting bigger and more advanced, we see this as a natural part of the development – automated sorting, quality control, data collection, and documentation.”

Útgerðarfélag Reykjavíkur chose Maritech Eye for automated sorting onboard fishing vessels

Blood, Gaping, Fat, Nematodes ++

Automated and objective quality assessment, documentation and sorting, allows you to use your resources in a more cost-efficient way and improve your margins. With our standardized setups for salmon or whitefish, you can easily get started and get full return on your investment within just a few months. Ask us for an estimate.

Maritech Eye™ detects and documents blood spots, gaping (whitefish and salmon) melanin, salmofan, fat (salmon fillets), nematodes, and species (white fish fillets + round fish). As the scanning gives you objective documentation of the fish quality – in industrial speed, with a unique ID for each fish – you can easily provide this verification and traceability to your customers either they are wholesalers, supermarket chains or smaller buyers. If you buy fish from other, you will be able to verify that you pay for the quality you actually get.

Maximizing profit and quality

“This first vessel-based project is a milestone in several ways,” says Per Alfred Holte, VP Technical Solutions at Maritech. “Especially since the value creation at the fishing grounds is almost impossible to compensate for at a later stage in the seafood value chain. An increasing share of the quotas are caught by large vessels, it is crucial to ensure optimal operations at sea, data collection, and resource utilization.

With automated tools such as Maritech Eye™, both the industry and authorities ensure objective documentation and data collection, with considerably higher precision and efficiency compared to what you can get through a manual collection of random samples or inspection of complete catch volumes.”

Welcome to Maritech,
Brim and Hnyfill!

In early June, The Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition (IceFish) finally opened its doors to the public again.

It was great to be back! And a perfect occasion to sign our two new customers, Brim Seafood and Hnyfill.

Brim testing Maritech Eye

Brim Seafood is one of the largest seafood companies in Iceland, specializing in wild-caught Atlantic Cod, Deep Sea and Golden Redfish, Greenland Halibut, Saithe, Mackerel, and Haddock. The initial phase of our new Brim partnership is a Maritech Eye™ test project, where the main goal is to increase the efficiency of Brim´s production and processing.

“We have been in dialogue with Brim for a while now, and they have been very positive right from the beginning. They are a leader in innovation and responsible fishing and have positioned themselves as an influencer in the Icelandic seafood industry,” says Konrad Olavsson, Maritech Iceland.

A natural next step

“Exploring the capabilities of Maritech Eye™ is a natural next step on this path, as they are now the first Icelandic company to start testing hyperspectral imaging for objective quality documentation and species sorting,” Olavsson continues.

“As Maritech Eye™ is the only solution of its kind in the world, that can actually document the inside of whole, round whitefish, this gives our customers  a new competitive advantage in the global market – in addition to the efficiency gains, reduced waste, and other benefits such as the reduced amount of repetitive, manual tasks.”

Hnyfill + Maritech

A new Maritech Cloud customer was also signed at Icefish – Hnyfill will now be the first Icelandic company using Maritech Purchase & Sales for all their seafood trading processes.  Hnyfill is a fish processor located in Akureyri in north Iceland. They have been operating for nearly 30 years and are moving into further digitalization of their processes together with Maritech.

“I’m not sure if it’s coincidence or fate that the meaning behind the word Hnyfill is ‘to pioneer,’ which is exactly what our relationship with them will do,” Olavsson smiles.

“We are looking forward to getting them up and running and aim to build a strong partnership for the future.”

Connected in Boston

The connection between Maritech and Hnyfill was established at Seafood Processing North America in Boston in March earlier this year.

“At the show we met the owners of Hnyfill and other processing and sales offices in Iceland. They showed us great interest since they have the need to digitalize their companies – preferably with the same IT partner to be able to cooperate and transfer information with more ease. Choosing Maritech as their trading software partner might just be the first step in our cooperation.”

Mowi choose
Maritech Eye™

We are pleased to announce that Mowi Consumer Products UK has implemented Maritech Eye™ to further enhance the quality assessment of their Mowi brand smoked salmon.

Automated, objective quality control and documentation

Beginning in 2018, Mowi, Maritech, and Nofima have cooperated in a joint innovation project to develop a technology for real-time quality scanning of salmon fillets at industrial speed. The project was successful, and Maritech Eye™ was launched for redfish at Aqua Nor in August 2021.

Maritech Eye™ advanced algorithms and hyperspectral camera solution detects and documents blemishes within the fillets and the size location of these quality challenges. This quality assessment method is the only one of its kind in the world, it is done at industrial speed, and live data is provided to operators and management.

After the end of the innovation project, Mowi Consumer Products UK and Maritech co-operated closely in a short pilot period to establish the quality criteria and make the necessary adjustments to integrate Maritech Eye™ within the production environment.

“For our business here in the UK and in particular the Mowi brand, this gives us the ability to pre-select fillets based on a specification to reduce the manual intervention of removing blemishes once the fillets have been sliced. Furthermore, sorting by quality and providing objective information gives us the ability to allocate the material accordingly and allows us to utilise our resources more efficiently and effectively” says Gary Paterson, Head of Operations, Mowi CP UK.

Ready for the global market

“Mowi is one of the most innovative seafood companies in the global seafood industry, and we are proud that they chose Maritech Eye™” says Per Alfred Holte, VP Technical Solutions in Maritech.

“Mowi Consumer Products UK is one of three international Maritech Eye™ redfish projects this fall, and we are impressed by how the Mowi team has handled the development and implementation in a period when it still has been difficult to travel due to Covid 19. Our team has only been at the site in Scotland once this year since the initial physical installation of the equipment.”

“Together we have proved that most of the optimization and implementation process can be done remotely and that Maritech Eye™ is ready for the global seafood industry, even during a pandemic.”

Aiming for excellence

How should project teams be put together and collaborate globally?

Across all business areas

In recent months, we have worked hard to re-invent our project methodology, ensuring best practices and consistent project delivery for our customers. Astrid Dale, our Director PMO, is leading the work.

A Project Management Office (PMO) ensures the organization’s ability to deliver projects in accordance with the agreed time, budget and scope. Our own PMO was established in the autumn of 2020, and has given us a very important boost in project management across national borders and teams.

“PMO in Maritech is a function that goes across all business areas. We do this to professionalize ourselves and secure future deliveries. At the same time, we see that this is increasingly a requirement from our customers. In addition, we have incorporated several companies into Maritech in recent years, and we want to take the best from everyone and ensure that everyone works in the same way,” says Astrid Dale.

As head of the PMO, she has the ultimate responsibility for ensuring routines and a well-functioning framework for project management. She is also responsible for ensuring that all projects consist of the right people with the right skills, as well as facilitating the best possible collaboration in Norway and globally.

“This is a collaboration on resources. We do not have a pool of people who only work on projects. Everyone contributes to the different projects and my responsibility is to bring in the right people at all times.”

From consultants to advisors

Maritech now goes from delivering tailor-made systems to delivering standards adapted to the industry, and encourages customers to employ best practices. This is reflected in the framework.

“Now we explore how customers can solve their challenges within standards. This means that we go from being consultants to becoming advisors. This requires more of us, but we are very good at leading projects, and we follow a scalable, globally recognized framework. It is incredibly fun to build such a model and see that it works. People want to join us, both internally and externally. All the elements create security, people believe in us and want our products. We become clearer and our organization works!”

“There is continuous change and we learn something new all the way,” smiles Astrid, who is above average fond of project work and was in fact Maritech’s first project manager ever.

A dream job

Astrid has a degree in economics and administration with a specialization in management. After a time as an all-rounder in Veidekke, she became a super user of a new IT system regionally. She eventually worked in the IT department with updates and implementation.

“I commuted weekly to Oslo for two years. It came to a point where I either had to move to Oslo or find something new. Five years ago, I started as a project manager at Maritech. I led the integration of Timpex and Lillebakk, Before I became head of the PMO, I was head of the consulting department. I have worked with a lot of different things and have been involved in great changes,” says Astrid.

Knowing the organization as well as she does is crucial in her new role.

“I have worked my way up and gained a great understanding of the organization. Maritech has an incredible number of skilled experts – I’m not one of them. But I have the overview, which I very much enjoy. My role involves personnel responsibility, planning, communication, coordination, structuring and close cooperation. I like working with people; Putting the right person in the right place, and experiencing that they are enjoying their work is incredibly rewarding.

– And most of all; I love structure. I am a little nerd there,” she smiles. “You must be one too, in this role,” she states.

In Astrid’s opinion she has the job of her dreams at Maritech.

“I have a permanent job and the security that comes with it, but at the same time have the entrepreneurial role. And I have the global perspective. It’s very cool.”
